“Better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times.”
Hola, I’m the Broke-Traveler. I’m an engineer from New Orleans whose two passions are travel and personal finance. I started this journey years ago when I started working for a travel app startup called TOURED. Ever since I graduated from college, I’ve been traveling as much as I can so when I stumbled upon an article online about a local travel app that uses an individual’s preferences to curate travel experiences for them, I knew I wanted to be a part of the team.
During this time, I also stumbled upon an article about a guy my age that was on track to retire by the age of 35! I always thought I was financially ahead of my peers. I had a financial adviser and I was contributing to my 401K and Roth IRA. Hell, I even had disability insurance. Even my financial guy said I was ahead of most people my age. But there’s so much more to it. I eventually realized how much I was doing wrong. There were a lot of basic personal finance concepts that I wasn’t aware of that. It’s sad, but I feel like this is a topic that most adults know little about. I quickly became obsessed with personal finance.
During this time, I also decided to leave TOURED and focus on my own personal finance and travel blog. I wanted to build something of my own and blog my travel experiences and show my readers interesting places and itineraries that are affordable. I also wanted to combine my travel blog with the basic personal finance principles I’ve earned along the way. I wanted a blog that I could share the financial mistakes that I have made, tips on how to be frugal, and a personal finance blueprint. I’m not a world traveler (Not yet). And I’m not a financial expert by any means. But I want to share what I have learned on my journey and hopefully you’ll learn something you didn’t know. Maybe it’ll help you retire early or take more vacations! Maybe you’ll learn about a great restaurant in NYC or a beach in Maui. Maybe I can inspire you to build a blog of your own. This journey of mine is just beginning. I plan on writing more financial posts and blogging more trips. Hopefully you’ll stick around and keep reading.
